Measurement - learning about LENGTH

Kia Ora everyone,

This term in mathematics we're learning about measurement. In week 3, on Friday we were very excited to start learning and developing our awareness about length through the planned activity - 'Worms'.

In this activity, the teacher gave us a ball of play dough to make long and short worms. Then the students were asked to describe their worms by saying - My worm is long; My worm is fat; My worms is tiny. Later on, we were told to make a worm that is short and discussed using these questions - How do we know that our worm is short? Is my worm the same as everyone else's? and Why? We also made other shapes of worms like long, wiggly and thin to see and compare different lengths.

Our learning outcome: To compare lengths from the same starting point using the material.
