Welcome Back to Term 2 Inquiry - "Where we are in Place and Time"

Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia Ora, & Namaste to our whanau,

Dedicated Dragons would like to say welcome back to Term 2. Mrs Kaur hopes you had a great time with our 'Dedicated Dragons' during the school holidays.

As the topic of this term is - 'where we are in place and time' that's why on 3rd of May our class went to the Howick Historical Village to see how was the lifestyle of people living 160 years ago. This place is a living history museum that provides an opportunity to see and learn about Auckland's colonial period (1840 to 1880). There we saw different kinds of colonial clothes, cooking dishes, games, trunk to carry their belongings, water bucket, the washing board, ironing clothes, making butter, the classroom - how boys and girls used to walk to school, general store, church, tent, money, type of food and the furniture.

Here are the captured glimpses from our trip. Please have a look 👀  and we hope you would enjoy them too. Please do leave us a comment. 😃  ðŸ˜ƒ  ðŸ˜ƒ

Off to the Historical Village in Howick by bus

Here we go...

Mrs Kaur, we're excited to see how were people living in olden times

Special thanks to our wonderful Parent helper - Annamaria's dad

Practising some cool games of that era

In washing room

Saint holding the water bucket and it's quite heavy...

Iron to iron the clothes and the fire was used to heat it up...

WOW!!! We were amazed to see the people carried lots of things with them on the ship before they migrated to New Zealand

Here we are experiencing how people used to wash their laundry using the wooden washing board with soap to scrub out the clothes and then hang them on the line.

In butter making room where we tried so hard by using our muscles to turn the handle of the butter churner to form the butter. Then finally we did it !!!

Mrs White washed the freshly made butter with clean water.

Eventually, we tasted our special butter with rice cracker yum yum mmm ...

Old dishes...

General Store

We were surprised to see these coins

The cottage

The tent

The teacher told us in olden days the kids used to sit up nice and straight in the classroom and boys & girls sit separately and greet differently too.

Mrs Hill was a grumpy teacher... We are glad that we weren't born then LOLZ!!!

Our nail inspection is going on...

We all had a great time and we are also very excited to start learning and sharing our ideas about this topic.

  4. Some great pics Dedicated Dragons. It's nice to see the fun that went on that day and for us parents to see what our children have been describing to us from their trip. VJ filled up his page at home with what they learnt and can now say "ahh...so that's what he was talking about" hahaha. :-)
Also, it's kinda funny that some of the things described above may have been in the late 1800's for NZ, but I know for some of us (especially our parents)...the tools for washing, ironing and butter making for example, were still used in the islands up until last century! =)
