Term 3 - Inquiry Learning about MINIBEASTS

Welcome back Whanau in Term 3 Week 4,

This term our Inquiry learning/Topic is all about different kinds of Minibeasts. Our Big Inquiry question is 'What is the role of minibeasts in our ecosystem? It means Dedicated Dragons will be learning, researching and developing their knowledge by participating and contributing their ideas in various types of learning experiences. All are very excited and eager to discover more about minibeast world.

We introduced the topic with the brainstorm in our class by discussing 'What are minibeasts? Which ones are they? What do we already know about them? Where might we find minibeasts around the school? Then Mrs. Kaur wrote down all our contributed ideas labelled with our names on the brainstorm board for our Interactive Inquiry Wall.

To have real life experience, we decided to go on the Minibeast Hunt in our own school garden with our Minibeast spotting worksheet to tick off as we see them. We were really excited to use our sharp eyes to hunt for the insects along with our buddies.

This is the spotting sheet we used to guide us:

When we came back from the school's garden, we had a quick chat with our buddy about the insects they had found. Mrs. Kaur gave us this homework in our topic books to try to find more in our home garden.

Hope you'll enjoy our pictures whanau:

YYAAAYYYYYYYY !!! We're so excited as next week on FRIDAY, 25th August we will be going to the Auckland Botanical Garden to build on our learning about Minibeasts. 😀😀😀😀😀

  1. Well done Dedicated Dragons. VJ was pretty excited about the topic, sharing what he had learnt at school with us at home. "Mum, do you know that worms are useful for the garden?". Nice to play along and have them explain what they've learnt. Bring on the minibeasts of the Botanic Garden...YAY!
