Matariki Star Weaving

Kia Orana everyone,

Our class has been learning the story about Matariki through various activities. We've learned that Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars also knows as the Pleiades. It rises in mid-winter i.e in June or early July. We also found out that Matariki is the family of "Seven Sister Stars" and when they show up in the sky that's the beginning of Maori New Year and it's also known as a good luck if they are visible in the sky.

Each Matariki star stands for its own uniqueness and importance behind it. The seven sisters are called Te Uru O Te Rangi, Tupua a Rangi, Tupua a Nuku, Waiti, Waiti, Waipuna a Rangi and Mereope.

Last Week, on Friday Mr. Anand, taught Dedicated Dragons how to weave our own Matariki star by using strips of coloured paper. We used different colours of papers as we wanted to see the contrast. All of us were really focused as we had to see carefully how to weave one strip over another. We also learned about the right use of vocabulary/words such as over, around, under and through and then we pulled to see our weaving pattern.

We all showed our best PRIDE values throughout our learning time about weaving the Matariki star. In addition, we can't wait to show our beautiful stars to Mrs. Kaur & our family.

Awesome work, DEDICATED DRAGONS!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ & thank you, Mr. Anand, for teaching us.
